SFFSat - April 28

Welcome to another SFFSat, and thanks to everyone who stops by and leaves awesome comments.  Much appreciated.

Here's another snippet from my other WIP, To Catch A Marlin - A futuristic cat and mouse chase involving Special Inspector Michael Pedroni and the vigilante he chases, Jax Marlin...who he has become smitten with.  Well, Jax is quite beautifully exotic, as vigilante's go.

In this scene, Inspector Pedroni is travelling to the space station, Bacchus Dome, in pursuit of Jax Marlin.  While passing the time, he has much to occupy his mind (as well as claustrophobia).

(Since I'm test-driving the new Blogger interface, let's hope this post goes live when it's supposed to).

She had a unique Eurasian look.  Even though it wasn’t a very good photo, captured as she turned in surprise as a tourist videotaped, Pedroni couldn’t deny her arresting beauty.
Exotic came to mind.
And dangerous.
Vigilantes usually were, he reminded himself.
With a sigh, Pedroni tucked her image back into the folder and leaned against the shuttle’s seat.  How freaking long does it take to get to the Bacchus Dome?  He risked another look out his tiny window, feeling moderately queasy as if recovering from a gut punch.  Travelling through space just wasn’t his thing.  Strapped in for twelve hours in a narrow seat, squashed up against a rather large woman who smelled remotely of gardenias and talcum powder didn’t help either.

If you're interested in participating in next week's SFF Saturday, stop by their sign-up blog which is open every Wednesdays.  And don't forget to follow the rules and use the #SFFSat hashtag.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers!

  2. I think you need the sweaty palms and pounding heartbeat for some good claustrophobia :-) But heck do I know that feeling! Maybe a desire to tear the spaceship apart too - that works :-D Just some suggestions ;-) ... other than that, I totally sympathise with him. I wouldn't want to be where he is either!

  3. Exotic and dangerous are always a problem when it comes to women...also enjoyed the description of space travel. Hee hee...great snippet. :-)

    1. Haha...well, I figure it can't be too far off from air travel (and since it's a "ship", not too different from sailing on a boat...right?) - and I'm not keen on long distance travelling either...

  4. Ew... Gardenias and talcum. Not pretty. Sounds like my last flight.

    1. It's happened to me before...and the scent too. It was one of those profound scent-triggered memories - being stuck in a crowded bus, hot, and this woman with same scent plastered next to me. Ick !!

  5. Gardenias and talcum powder? That's what I had for breakfast! I don't see the issue.

  6. Wonderful descriptions. I know that overly large woman! I've been squished next to her in a crowd before. I love Jax and I can't wait to read more!

  9. Poor guy. I think I've caught that flight before.

  10. Plus, there's the long boredom before the excitement. That always makes those flights even worse.

  11. I feel Pedroni's pain, man. I _hate_ flying...though I'm usually the overly-large person next to someone else (however, I don't smell of gardenias and talcum powder; my scent is decidedly bacon and whiskey). They need to make the seats bigger! Then everyone is happy.

    Good snippet. :)
