A little late in posting, but posting all the same...
Over the Valentine's weekend, THE ANGEL OF MERCY, novella No. 7 in the Jax Marlin series was released. In this instalment, our favourite vigilante is negotiating a small dilemma: to get back to work, or not...
The Angel of Mercy
Even A Vigilante Needs An Angel
Weeks after helping Special Inspector Pedroni sort through his demons, Jax Marlin is still hiding, reluctant to conquer her own monster and face the world. As Christmas 2400 descends, Pedroni waits for Jax in growing despair, battling the crowds shopping for gifts and having cappuccinos with his elderly neighbour. Meanwhile Jax procrastinates, but learns of the kidnapping of a young girl. She soon realizes the girl is someone she knows, and if ever she needed a kick-start, this is it. As she chases the scent of the kidnappers, Jax finds herself entrenched in tropical sunshine and briny ocean breezes, and Pedroni eagerly abandons shopping to give chase once more. Can Jax save the kidnapped girl? Will Pedroni finally capture his vigilante? But not all is as it seems, and not all that need saving need it.
There you have it. Now go get your copy now!
Cheers!

SFFSat - April 12
Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday (SFFSat) is a place where a bunch of us post snippets from our written works and also shoot the breeze a little. And before I get ahead of myself, thanks and appreciation as always to those who stop by and leave fantastic comments.
This snippet comes from THE EDGE OF THE BLADE, #6 in the To Catch a Marlin short story series. It's scheduled for release April 18.
In this snippet, we have our favourite vigilante watching as her copper, Pedroni, has a private moment dealing with an issue. As Jax stands guard, giving Pedroni some space, they are surrounded by a group of junkies.
My copper. Jax marveled at the sight. What a gorgeous sight.
With a
final kick to the ribs, her copper straightened up and nodded as if pleased.
“We can’t
leave him here,” Pedroni sniffed and swiped the back of a hand across his
mouth. “No telling what these junkies will do.”
“Oh, he’ll be
fine.”
“Jax, come
on, you promised.”
“They won’t eat
him. You’re confusing them with zombies.”

THE DEVIL INSIDE - It's OUT!
THE DEVIL INSIDE is OUT! The newest little novella featuring Jax Marlin, super-sexy vigilante, and Special Inspector Michael Pedroni, from the full-length novel, To Catch A Marlin has been released.
It was anticipated for a Christmas Eve release, but whoo-hoo! It's out early.
The Devil Inside is #5 in the series, and things get a little dark in this one. Here's a short blurb:
Death Comes To Us All.
When her inner demon screamed, Jax Marlin set it loose upon the world's criminals. When the demon wanted blood, she gave it like an offering.
Special Inspector Pedroni chases his foes--always a step behind. This time, with heavy heart, unable to believe his Jax has become a common murderer.
After the events with the Necromancer Killer, after having set her prey free, Jax struggles to come to terms with her decision. Her inner monster, one she's kept at bay for years, surfaces in outrage and goes on a rampage. Can she stop in time before her sanity is lost? And can Pedroni come to terms with what's she's become?
Here's a wee-short excerpt:
Dead man’s punch!
Jax Marlin pivoted her body like a
matador, right elbow raised high over her head just before she delivered a
powerful blow into the man’s chest.
Like a bull grunting, the man let out
a gust of breath. He crumpled inwards then teetered sideways, falling heavily
on his side. Jax imagined his heart fibrillating from the trauma; his system
would soon go into shock. Leaning over him, she drew her arm back, poised to
hit him again in case the first blow didn’t take.
She waited.
Red-faced, his eyes rolled up into
his head as his breath came out in strained gasps. All over his naked body,
welts and bruises covered him, some bleeding. His face displayed an impressive
collection of red, swollen lumps. From his mouth, blood seeped, staining the
few remaining teeth. One eye was swollen shut, the other barely open.
“You will die,” Jax stated calmly.
---
There you have it!
Here's hoping you all have a wonderful Christmas!! Eat, drink (and buy my book) and be merry!!
Cheers!

Great Way to Start a Monday...
So, I wake up, I crank open Tweetdeck to see what's happening in the Twitterverse, and wah-hoo, I see a sweet little post in my interactions column from J.M. Blackman.
Click to see the review: http://jmblackman.com/2013/10/20/t-k-toppin-author-spotlight-double-header-review-of-the-lancaster-ruleto-catch-a-marlin/
First of all, thank you J.M. Such kind words, and as an author yourself, I'm sure you know how nice that feels. Yep, J.M writes some incredible Sci-Fi/Speculative Fiction.
J.M. recently finished reading both The Lancaster Rule and To Catch A Marlin. I wrote TLR in 2008, and TCaM in 2011, and I'm sure she noticed how much my writing has changed (she did), and how little it stayed the same (I didn't know) in regards to how I treated the characters and the world-building. It's nice to be able to find out about these from completely unobjective eyes.
It's also great to start the week off grinning like a fool.
Again, thanks, J.M.
Cheers!

5 Years, 4 Books, 3 Novellas, and some Shorts later...
Well, I couldn't let the year progress any further without some mention of where I am right now. Where? It's like the title to this post says and then some: 5 years writing, 2 publishers, 4 books, 3 novellas and some short stories later...and, wait for it...lots more to come since the ideas keep a-coming!
My journey began early 2008, with a promise to myself and a new year's resolution on the beach among friends. One insisted we write down a list of the 200 things we most wanted to do. Well, I couldn't think of 200 things - just the one thing, and that was to write. Write something, anything. That thought stayed with me like a kick in the ass for a few weeks. I waffled a bit, thinking how best to tackle this whole writing thing. So I wrote down notes on plots, ideas, tooled around with characters, and then I just pushed it aside and instead, ruminated with a few scenes that kept reoccurring in my head.
My mid-January, the very shaky beginnings of The Lancaster Rule formed, and by March, I was hacking out the beginning. By April, I was just about done. But I was far from done, and The Master Key, spewed out of me before I could even finish Lancaster. And shortly after, the seeds of The Eternal Knot germinated in my head. Within 2 years, The Lancaster Trilogy was complete and I was a published writer!
Then I discovered, I simply could not stop writing. Like breaking through a blockage and forging a new tributary to empty out into the vast river of creativeness, it seemed I'd found another outlet to 'vent' my thoughts out. It felt right.
Last year, out came my fourth novel, To Catch A Marlin, and I gained a new publisher game enough to take a chance on me. Shortly after, 3 novellas in the Marlin series. Rounding things off, I also completed a couple of short stories, still seeking their way to publication.
I've also got a collection of unfinished stories (well, one is done) that need to see their own 'the ends' in good time.
Then, after The Lancaster Rule was published, it received a Novel of the Year nomination from my publisher, Champagne Book Group. And then, The Eternal Knot was voted Best Book of the Month by Long and Short Reviews. (Check out the link and my interview with them). Soon after, it was up for nomination as Best Book of 2012. How cool was THAT?
So, not too shabby. These past five years have been busy and productive, filled with fantastic plot bubbles and adventures that have taken me 300 years into the futures as well as traipsing about the depths of space. Heh, and I didn't even have to leave the comfort of my home. Isn't writing fun!
Cheers!

Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday (SFFSat) is a place where a bunch of us post snippets from our written works and also shoot the breeze a little. And before I get ahead of myself, thanks and appreciation as always to those who stop by and leave fantastic comments.
Yet another novella was released Friday (available at Amazon).
THE NECROMANCER OF THE AVON - Special Inspector Michael Pedroni finds himself on board a derelict battlecruiser, the Avon, attempting to solve the mystery of a gruesome massacre. The vigilante, Jax Marlin, appears with a clear idea of who has committed the crime, the infamous Necromancer Killer. In an unexpected twist, the inspector and the vigilante form a truce and work together to capture their prey...(I know, shocking, right!)
In this scene, Pedroni and Jax are on board a Marine vessel, discussing the Necromancer and before they declare a truce. Pedroni opens this scene...
“You’d prefer to stew
in the ship’s brig until the investigation is over? It could take days—weeks.”
She let
out a soft chuckle, her breath nudging his face. “You actually believe you can make me stew…in a brig?”
“I’ve
seen the brig—it’s solid and secure. You won’t be able to escape.”
“You have
to catch me first.”
“I will
catch you.”
She smiled, not quite a dare, but close enough. “So why haven’t you?”

THE MARLIN STRIKES AGAIN - Welcome back to the world of Jax Marlin, sexy vigilante, and Special Inspector Michael Pedroni. In this 'episode,' Jax is pursuing a nasty pedophile in a quaint little university town that seems content to turn a blind eye to his vile deeds.
In this scene, Jax has followed the pedophile to a charming little housing complex where a little girl resides...of course, Jax doesn't stand for this sort of behaviour and moves in to intercept.
Where had The Pedophile
disappeared?
Pressing her back to the
side of the enclosure, Jax peered out to the end of the house. The back yard,
what she could see of it, looked even smaller than the front and the dividing
wall only a smidgeon higher than the sidewall. A few shrubs tried their best to
grow, skirting decoratively around a wooden deck the size of a bar stool seat.
A scatter of toys and a few chairs finished the back yard.
All the houses were the
same, so this meant on the other end of the back yard, there would be another
small enclosure for the composting unit, which offered an even better hiding
area for a lurking pedophile. No doubt, it would also offer a tantalizing view
of the little girl’s bedroom.
Jax slithered around the
maintenance enclosure and peered around the corner of the house. She saw the
composting shed, and if she narrowed her eyes and unfocused a little, the
unmistakable form of a man crouching in the darkness.
Gotcha!
Cheers!

Welcome back to the world of Jax Marlin, sexy vigilante, and Special Inspector Michael Pedroni. PURGED IN FIRE has already been released in an anthology collection, however, I've added a few little tweaks and pulls in this version.
In this scene, we have Pedroni meeting up with a fellow Inspector on a pleasure station where Jax Marlin is supposedly planning her next attack...
“Don’t
be daft, Pedroni. The Marlin is here for Moor. He’s just her type of criminal and when it goes down, he’s mine. This is the Ring…my turf.”
“Go
right ahead, he’s yours.” Pedroni had no desire to claim bragging rights on
Moor; he only wanted Jax. “Just don’t get in my way, Ryder. I’ve had enough of
eager cops getting in the way, just to get to Jax.”
“Oh,” Ryder jerked his head with surprise and a
slow smile spread across his fleshy mouth. “Jax,
is it now?”

To Catch A Marlin is a futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
In this scene, we have Inspector Pedroni mulling a few things with his Chief Inspector.
“Your
vigilante girl’s lost her freaking marbles, Pedroni.” Chief Inspector Aoki
wiggled his tie with agitation; his round Asian features puffed even further as
he worked his mouth into a twisted line. “She’s on killing spree.”
Special
Inspector Michael Pedroni pinched the bridge of his sizeable nose. The recent
report file of the house fire, which turned into a veritable conflagration that
leveled the structure to a blackened stump, graced his cluttered desk. The
victim, a suspected serial arsonist, had disintegrated to dust. Not even their
best scanner could detect any trace of his DNA. The only evidence that the fire
wasn’t caused by the arsonist was the marlin pendant placed inside his mailbox
at the end of his front yard, untouched by the destructive flames.
Jax has gone rogue.
With this sinking realization, Pedroni let
out a breath.

Happy New Year and welcome back to another long year of SFFSat snippets!
Today, I have the very first opening lines of my new WIP for the To Catch A Marlin series. This is a short story with the working title of The Devil Inside.
To Catch A Marlin is a futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
In this scene, the story continues from her last 'adventure,' where things didn't go quite as she planned (The Necromancer of the Avon), and she's having a bit of a...well...venting episode in the form of a wee killing spree. Don't worry, it's just a passing phase...
Dead man’s punch!
Jax
Marlin pivoted her body like a matador, her right elbow raised high over her
head just before she delivered a powerful blow into the man’s chest.
Like a
bull grunting, the man let out a gust of air, crumpling inwards then he
teetered sideways, falling heavily on his side. Jax imagined his heart
fibrillating from the trauma, his system would soon go into shock. Leaning over
him, she drew her arm back, poised to hit him again in case the first blow didn't take.
She
waited.
Red-faced,
his eyes rolled up into his head as his breath came out in strained gasps.
“You will
die,” Jax stated calmly. “No one is coming to save you. No one wants to save
you.”
Cheers!

Continuing with To Catch A Marlin...
To Catch A Marlin is a futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
In this scene, we have Jax in London, in her apartment, having a particularly reflective moment...
She checked the time, just after 5 a.m. London Time.
Traveling through space really messed up her internal clock. She was wide awake, starving hungry for chicken wings, and wanting a
meaty drink like a Guinness. Even the two days she’d spent flat out
on her back, most of it sleeping, hadn’t really helped her reacclimate
to Earth life.
Outside the quaint townhouse in Stockwell Park, listed
under Jacqueline Sturgeon, the rain pattered. It looked like winter
this year would be a wet one. Not that it made much difference
from the previous years—but a little snow would be nice. London
didn’t believe in Weather Control, claiming it caused the city to lose
its traditional charm. Not many sodden residents agreed.
Cheers!

Continuing with the release of To Catch A Marlin, yet another snippet. I'm debating whether this should be the last one--time to move onto other exciting adventures--but maybe I'll save one last one for next week.
To Catch A Marlin is a futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
Today, we have our favourite space pirate, Captain Taris, chatting with Jax after a particularly nasty chase, having a little discussion about space...
Jax snorted. “Granny Fish does not pine. And she still thinks you’ve wasted your talents out here in this dark hole of a universe.”
“I don’t know what you two have against space and adventuring these uncharted seas.”
“It’s space. It’s got stars and planets and junk. What more is there to adventure?”
“You landlubbers.”
“It’s space. It’s got stars and planets and junk. What more is there to adventure?”
“You landlubbers.”
“Uncle Taris. It’s space—not the freaking ocean.”

Today, we have Pedroni scrambling away from a rather amorous encounter with a guest on the Bacchus Dome (a pleasure station in space). It should be noted that nothing happened, other than Pedroni losing some of his dignity...he's very prudish when he's ready.

He scrambled to fix himself as he scurried away, in search of his jacket. To his horror, it had landed behind the woman; he hesitated, running through ways to avoid her clutches. She still lay on the floor, legs spread and waving in the air to the cheers of the onlookers.
A service droid resembling a mermaid scooped up Pedroni’s jacket and brought it to him with a smile. He breathed out a sigh and graciously thanked the machine—then fled.
As he rounded a corner, he ran hands through his hair and pressed his back against a wall.
These people...
He had nothing against the woman, other than the large breasts, which always intimidated him—her approach was simply offensive. He scrubbed a hand over his face, hot and sweaty from the humiliating encounter. The sooner he got off this debauching place, the better.

Today, we have Jax onboard the Beemer, a pirate space vessel, and having a discussion with her old friend Taris after a particularly hasty chase...It should be noted, that despite all her escapades and feats, she is quite discomforted with being in space.
“Calm down, Jaxy. This ship’s old but she’s still got moves.”
He did a waddling impression of a belly dancer gyrating, then
grasped her roughly by the shoulders and gave her a reassuring
squeeze. “We’ll just do a big loop and head back—don’t want to
lose that nice ship you left us, now do we?” He clicked his tongue.
“I just can’t understand what you have against space. What with all
the things you get up to, this should be a walk in the park.”
“I like to see the ground.” Jax retorted testily; embarrassment made her grouchy. “Preferably with both feet on it.”

This week, to celebrate the release of To Catch A Marlin, yet another snippet.
To Catch A Marlin is a futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
Today, we have Special Inspector Pedroni, who is on a space station called Cyprian after an 'incident' involving Jax. He's finding dealing with the local authorities...challenging. (Note: Ling is another agent, and CI stands for Chief Inspector).
“I’ll
go get some coffee.” In sympathy, Ling patted Pedroni’s shoulder, then, jerked
his head towards a streetglider just pulling up at the entrance of the street.
“There’s Minamoto over there, the one with the steam coming out her nose.
Oh-oh...too late, she’s spotted you.”
CI Minamoto wore a severe black skirt suit and skyscraper heels to elevate her short stature some six inches. Her black hair was scraped clean off her face and tied back in an angry looking knot at the very top of her head. Her face was a narrow and angular slash, with hard black eyes directed at Pedroni. She walked briskly over with a sort of stomping clip-clop that sent the edges of her skirt jerking left and right to keep tune with her pace. She reminded him of his ex-wife.
Pedroni could think of nothing to say—running for his life looked really good at the moment.

TO CATCH A MARLIN - Released!
TO CATCH A MARLIN is out!!
Published by Ring of Fire Publishing, this marks my fourth book (but actually my fifth completed novel) and follows the lives of two polar opposites in the form of a special inspector and his prey, a super sexy vigilante.
What wouldn't you do to catch a criminal?
In the tail end of the 24th Century, Special Inspector Michael Pedroni pursues a beautiful and elusive vigilante, Jax Marlin, in a wild cat and mouse chase that will take him from Earth to the Bacchus Dome and beyond.
Jax Marlin is not your average criminal; she seeks out evil-doers and law-breakers, doling out justice in whatever way she sees fit. But lately, she finds she's been gift-wrapping criminals specially for her favorite copper.
Four of the world's leading criminals are determined to form an alliance. Jax is determined to stop them. Hot on her heels, Inspector Pedroni finds himself questioning the difference, if any, between her justice and his. More than that, he wonders why, when he'd had her in his grasp, he was unable to slap on the restraints and bring her in.
Both want the same thing--to stop criminals. But the growing attraction each has towards the other becomes a dangerous hindrance.
So, there you have it. What wouldn't you do to read this book? :)
Cheers!

It's Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday time again.
SFFSat is a place where a bunch of us post snippets from our written works and also shoot the breeze a little. And before I get ahead of myself, thanks and appreciation as always to those who stop by and leave fantastic comments.
This week, I'm still featuring a snippet from To Catch A Marlin, due out this October with Ring of Fire Publishing. A futuristic cat and mouse tale involving Special Inspector Pedroni and the vigilante Jax Marlin, who just happens to be a super sexy woman with ninja skills.
Today, Jax is having dinner at a seafood restaurant on the Bacchus Dome (in space), hidden away from prying eyes in a private booth with privacy screens initiated. In the main dining room, Inspector Pedroni is also having dinner, alone. Jax takes this opportunity to study the man, but in the meantime, has to suffer the ordeal of eating a seafood...
According
to the restaurant hostess who showed her to the booth, it had affected an
oceanic scent, which, in Jax’s opinion didn’t smell anything like the ocean. In
fact, it smelled more like some public toilets in classy establishments that
came with service bots carrying trays of perfumes and scented soaps and fresh
hot hand towels.

Jax
had already eaten her oyster starter with copious shots of vodka, but the
rawness of briny, rubberized glob still coated her mouth like phlegm. She’d
already forced down several retches before deciding on chasing down the mollusk
with vodka like she would if she were swallowing a pill. What people found
deliciously fascinating about the decadent snot ball was beyond her.
Pedroni, who sat rather awkwardly by himself at a
table, ate his boring clam chowder with even groaningly boring care. She nearly
glazed over watching him.
Cheers!
